The University Committee on Rules and Jurisdiction (UCRJ) oversees the development, interpretation, and consistency of the Academic Senate’s bylaws and regulations. In this systemwide role, the committee reviews proposed Senate legislation, advises on questions of jurisdiction or legislative interpretation, and responds to requests from Senate leaders, committees, and divisions for guidance based on the Code of the Academic Senate. The committee’s work helps ensure that Senate policy is clear, coherent, and applied consistently across the University, supported by its Legislative Rulings compiled in Appendix II of the Manual of the Academic Senate. Service on UCRJ offers faculty the opportunity to engage deeply with the Senate’s governance framework and contribute to the clarity and integrity of Senate policy.
