The English for Multilingual Students Advisory Group (EMS AG) shall report annually to its parent committee, the University Committee on Preparatory Education (UCOPE). The annual report shall be prepared by the chair and on behalf of the advisory group. EMS AG shall: 1) collect data on EMS structures and offerings including programs, courses, and/or practices across UC campuses, 2) collaborate across campuses and, as needed, with relevant Senate bodies, e.g., the ELWR Coordinating Council or BOARS, to identify and address UC-wide challenges and opportunities affecting EMS populations, and 3) develop recommendations for UCOPE that foster the academic success of multilingual students under the purview of preparatory education, including ways to increase the effectiveness of local and systemwide structures, offerings, programs, courses, and/or practices.
EMS AG shall be populated by faculty experts in the field, one from each undergraduate division. A senate faculty member or continuing lecturer with expertise in the areas within EMS’ purview can serve as chair. Chair appointments shall be for two-year terms, renewable one time consecutively. At large membership is limited to six years consecutively, not counting terms as chair. Membership, one representative from each undergraduate campus in addition to an at large chair, shall be nominated by the parent committee chair annually.
