The Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) Coordinating Council (ECC) advises the University Committee on Preparatory Education (UCOPE) on the effectiveness of campus writing placement systems that assess incoming students’ college-level writing preparation. In this systemwide role, the council evaluates local efforts in placing students in courses appropriate for their level of English writing proficiency. The council’s work helps ensure that students meet the expectations for English composition at the college level and are prepared to succeed academically at the University. Service on ECC offers faculty the opportunity to shape policies and practices that directly affect student success at UC.
