John A. Bauman

UCLA School of Law mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus John A. Bauman, who died on April 29, 2016 of natural causes. He was 95 years old.

Professor Bauman was a member of the UCLA Law faculty since 1960; he took emeritus status in 1991. With a principal scholarly focus on remedies and procedural subjects, he was honored with the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1993. He was executive director of the Association of American Law Schools from 1980 to 1983 and secretary and treasurer of the Order of the Coif from 1983 to 1991. He served as associate dean of UCLA School of Law from 1969 to 1979.

Bauman attended the University of Minnesota and Columbia University. He taught at the University of New Mexico from 1947 to 1954 and at Indiana University from 1954 to 1959. He is survived by his wife, Mary.
