Riverside's Hare Elected 2014-15 Senate Vice Chair
UC Riverside Professor of Entomology J. Daniel Hare has been elected 2014-15 Academic Senate vice chair. He will succeed Professor Mary Gilly as systemwide Senate chair in 2015-16.
Professor Hare is one of the Senate’s leading voices for faculty welfare issues. He has been a member of the UC Committee on Faculty Welfare (UCFW) since 2009, and is currently in his second year as chair of that committee. He is also a longtime member of UCFW’s two specialized task forces – Investment and Retirement (TFIR) and Health Care (HCTF).
In addition to his systemwide service on UCFW and the Academic Council, Hare was a member and chair of the UC Riverside Faculty Welfare Committee, a member of the Committee on Planning and Budget, and member and chair of the Committee on Privilege and Tenure on that campus.
“I look forward to the responsibilities of advocating for the faculty of the world's greatest public research university as we address our most important challenge – the lack of financial support to accomplish our historical tripartite mission of education, research, and service,” he said. “My primary goals as vice chair and chair will be to ensure that the faculty voice is heard to preserve the quality and depth of a UC education and to ensure that UC can continue to recruit and retain a world class faculty.”
