Electronic Survey of Faculty on Question of Lab Management

From May 3 through May 14 the Senate will conduct an electronic survey of all Academic Senate members on the question of whether UC should compete to manage the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The more respondents, the more useful the results, so please participate!

It’s easy. Open the email you will receive from the UCSF Academic Senate with the subject “UC Faculty Survey on the National Labs”; click on the link to the survey and follow instructions for responding to a set of questions. The survey includes a section at the end for comments.

It’s quick. It takes about 5 minutes to complete.

It’s reliable. Responses are confidential and the tallying system is secure.

It’s worthwhile. The survey is designed to capture nuances of opinions; it’s not just a yes or no vote. The results will be shared with the faculty and, at their request, with the Regents as an indication of where the faculty stand on this important matter.

Want More Information on Lab Issues?

A set of informational white papers is available online to provide faculty with background on the national labs. Topics include a historical overview of the labs, rationales for and against managing the labs, academic freedom and classified research, and others.
