Bill Jacob Elected 2012-13 Senate Vice Chair
UC Santa Barbara Professor of Mathematics William (Bill) Jacob has been elected 2012-13 Academic Senate Vice Chair. Jacob is currently in his second year as chair of the Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools, and is also a member of the Academic Council and Academic Assembly. He will succeed Robert Powell as Senate chair in 2013-14.
In addition to his five years on BOARS, Professor Jacob has been active at the systemwide level as a member of the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates and the UC Admissions Processing Task Force, and as the co-chair of the Career Technical Education “a-g” Advisory Committee. At UCSB, Jacob served four years as a member, and then chair, of the Senate’s Committee on Admissions, Enrollment, and Relations with Schools (CAERS), and four years on the Undergraduate Council. He has an extensive public service record that has focused on improving mathematics education and academic preparation in secondary education. He has served on mathematics framework committees and panels at the California Department of Education and is currently the director and K-12 Program Coordinator of the UCSB Center for Mathematical Inquiry.
