News in Brief

Senate Health Science Panel
Responding to the worsening financial situation at the University of California's Medical Centers, the Senate's Academic Council has established a Health Science Subcommittee that will begin looking into ways in which UC might respond to the changing health-care environment.

"How do we restructure and reorganize? How do we adapt to the changes that are taking place in the health sciences world?" says the first chair of the subcommittee, William Wara, a professor of radiation oncology and chair of the UC, San Francisco Senate.

Joining Wara on the panel are Charles Lewis and John Wheeler, the chairs of the UCLA and UCSD Senates; Carol Freeman, the chair of the Senate's University Committee on Educational Policy; Margot Norris, the chair of the Coordinating Committee on Graduate Affairs; and Lawrence Pitts, the chair of the University Committee on Faculty Welfare.
