Professor Emeritus Ernest A. Engelbert, a member of UCLA’s Political Science Department from 1950 to 1983, died on November 3, 2000 at the age of 83. He was a key member of the department’s program in public administration and played a major role in the development and administration of the departmental masters in public administration, as well as the undergraduate major in public service. He was a member of the Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society, which honored him with an award in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of city planning and his influence on the elevation of planning standards. Over his career, he consulted for the California State Legislature, the National Science Foundation and the California State Department of Water Resources. He also published extensively on land and water use, education and training in public administration, and urban development.
