It is with sadness that we note the recent passing of Professor Emeritus Rolf Linn. Rolf Linn received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1949 and began his career as an associate professor at UCSB when it still was a state college in the early 1950s. He was a member of what was then the Department of Foreign Languages. He initiated the German major in the department in 1958 and an M.A. by about 1963. He was a specialist in nineteenth and twentieth century German literature, published on Schiller, Fontane, Heinrich Mann. He retired as a full professor in 1980. Rolf Linn passed away on June 5, 2003 at the age of 89.
